With all that is going on in the world right now, and the likely repercussions that will be felt in the (sport horse) marketplace as a result, has this only further increased the importance of critically accessing the mares that each of us are breeding from?
I've spoken with a number of prominent breeders and producers recently. The consensus seems to be that interest in the top horses will remain, but that the middle market (and below) will take the greatest hit. This was also the case 10-12 years ago.
This isn't a post advising you not to breed this year, but to suggest taking this opportunity to make (or get) a very honest assessment of your mare(s) and where you feel their offspring fit into today's (& tomorrow's) desired marketplace and sport.
